Boy helps old woman to climb up the ladder , then discovers stairs lead to her new $1.8m house – Story of the day

The poor boy decided to help the old woman climb the stairs, although his friends warned him not to do it. In the end, the woman rewarded his kindness by giving him a new home.

Rick was a seven-year-old boy who liked to play outside with his friends. They lived in a small rural town where small cottages lined the farms where their parents worked.

Further down the road, where they all lived, was an old manor house covered in greenery. There were lots of trees next to the mansion, so Rick and his friends liked to spend their time there, climbing trees and picking fruit.

Before accessing the mansion, there was a cement staircase that had to be climbed to reach the front door. Its sides were beautifully landscaped with colorful flowers and fresh greenery, which gave the impression of coming straight out of a fantastic Hollywood movie.

“I heard an old lady lived there,” one of Rick’s friends said one day, watching the house from a distance.

“I heard she was a witch!” – added another of his friends.

From that day on, they kept a close eye on the mansion, hoping not to meet the ‘witch’ who was supposed to live there. One day, however, Rick heard a loud cough coming from outside the mansion.

“Could it be an old lady?” – he asked, running out from under the trees to check who it was. His friends followed him, curious as to what sound they had just heard.

When they saw that it was an old woman, the boys were horrified. She was coughing and barely breathing as she climbed the stairs to the manor house.

Rick decided to help the old lady, realising that she was not feeling well. “What are you doing?” – His friends shouted to him. “Don’t touch her!”

Rick wouldn’t listen to his friends and headed towards the old lady to help her. “Hello ma’am. Can I help you walk up the stairs?” – he asked her.

The old lady smiled. “Thank you, my boy. I shall be very grateful.”

The elderly woman squeezed Rick’s hand as they walked up the stairs. She said that she had tried to go to the grocery shop to buy a few groceries, but she didn’t have the energy to continue. “I didn’t think it would be such a long walk,” she admitted.

Rick felt sorry for the old woman, not only because she was in trouble, but because he and his friends had judged her wrong. “I’ve never seen anyone leave the mansion before, so I was surprised when I heard you coughing. My friends and I are always climbing trees near your house,” Rick shared, “My name is Rick,” he added.

“Well, Rick. I’m glad you heard me today, because I don’t know how I could have walked up those stairs on my own. My name is Alison,” the old lady replied.

When they reached the top of the stairs, Alison was relieved. “I’m getting old,” she commented. “Come in. I’ll get you some milk and biscuits,” she told Rick, who happily agreed.

Rick was surprised at the size of Allison’s house. She had a fireplace next to a large staircase that led to the second floor. “I’ve never seen such a big house,” he said in amazement.

“Where do you live, Rick?” decided to ask Allison, heading for the kitchen.

“I live in one of the cottages on a farm nearby. All I have left is my mother. When I saw that you were having trouble walking up the stairs, I remembered my grandmother. I miss her so much and would do anything to have her back,” the boy admitted.

Allison smiled as she handed Rick a plate of cookies and a glass of warm milk. “You’re a good boy. I’m sure your grandmother loved you very much.”

After eating some of the cookies on his plate, Rick looked around the room and noticed that no one else seemed to live in the house except Allison.

“Do you live alone, Allison? Where are your kids?” – he asked.

“I have a carer who used to come every day because I have heart problems and find it difficult to move around. She quit this week because she is moving to another state. I haven’t been able to find a replacement for her yet, so I have to do everything myself,” she says.

“You see, I never had children. I loved my husband very much, and when he decided he didn’t want to have children so he could concentrate on his business empire, I happily agreed,” she says, taking a biscuit from Rick’s plate and taking a bite.

Rick felt sorry for Alison. She was a 91-year-old woman who lived alone, with no one to look after her. He wanted to help her.

“I can be your guide for now. When you need to go to the grocery shop, I can walk you there and back. Is that all right?” – he asked the old woman, who couldn’t help but smile.

“My pleasure, little one. Thanks for the offer. You’re so sweet!” – she said, hugging Rick.

Rick and Alison agreed to go to the grocery shop every Friday together. Rick would pick Allison up from her house and lead her up the stairs. Then they called a taxi, drove to the grocery shop, and came back together.

As soon as they were finished, they drove home in another taxi and Rick carried the groceries up the stairs, guiding Allison. “I’m so glad I met you, Rick. You’re a godsend,” Allison told him.

Rick and Allison continued shopping for a few months until one day Allison did not come out of the house. The door was locked, and no one opened the door.

Rick became worried and nervous. “What if something bad happens to her?” – he thought.

He waited outside the door in case Allison showed up. However, several hours passed and no one ever came out. Then a black tinted car drove onto the property. He rushed up the stairs, thinking it was Allison.

To his surprise, there was a man in a business suit with his mother inside the car. “Mother? What are you doing here?” – he asked her.

“It’s about the old lady,” she replied. “Come on, get in the car. We have somewhere to go.”

Rick’s heart sank and his stomach began to twist. “What happened to her, Mum? Is she all right?” – he asked.

“You’ll see, sweetheart,” she replied quietly.

Eventually they were dropped off at the lawyer’s office. There Rick saw Alison. “I was so afraid something had happened to you, Alison,” he said, running over to her and hugging her tightly.
